Software
Programs I recommended that get the job done.
VLC Media Player - Able to play nearly any video or audio file. To unlock its full potential, install this first: FFmpeg (allows VLC to open a much larger range of video and audio formats).
Audacity - Free audio editing and recording. To really use Audaicty effectively, install these first: FFmpeg (allows Audacity to import and export a much larger range of audio formats, and import audio from most video files), LADSPA (may be obsolete, verification pending), and LAME MP3 Encoder (now comes with main Audacity install, yay).
7-Zip - Opens .zip, .rar, .7z, and other compressed files. Here's WinRAR, if for some reason 7-Zip won't cut it (which it should): WinRAR
DeskPins - DeskPins can be used to make any application "Always On Top," that is, to keep it above all other windows.
foobar2000 - Read and convert audio files from some video games, such as .wem files from Wwise.
Comics
Webcomics rule.
Questionable Content - A slice-of-life webcomic written and illustrated by Jeph Jacques. It was launched in August 2003 and as of April 2021 reached its 4,500th comic. Updates Weekdays
Lackadaisy - Set in a Prohibition-era 1927 St. Louis with a population of anthropomorphic cats, the plot chronicles the fortunes of the Lackadaisy speakeasy after its founder is murdered. The comic mixes elements of comedy, crime and mystery. No Longer Updates, but an animated film is in the works!
XKCD - A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. Updates Mon/Wed/Fri
